Drug and Alcohol use amongst LGBT young people is an area of significant policy work for BeLonG To.

In 2006, in partnership with the North Inner City Drugs Task Force, BeLonG To established the first and only dedicated LGBT drugs education and outreach service in Ireland. Because of the nature of the work this also lead to involvement in regional and national policy developments.

In 2007 with the publication of the reserach Drug Use amongst LGBT young adults in Ireland, (Download Here) BeLonG To developed relationships with the National Drugs Strategy Team as well as with Regional Drugs Task Forces - highlighting the needs of LGBT drug users and the education and prevention needs of young LGBT people.

In 2008/2009 BeLonG To coordinated the LGBT community submission to the new National Drugs Strategy 2009-2016, which resulted in the naming of LGBT people as a community in need of specific attention.
